The European Commission released 2012 verified EU ETS emissions data today. Preliminary data show that CO2 emissions from the 27 EU countries were down by 1.4 % from 2011. These new data have been added to our online EU ETS Database and can be viewed and accessed by registered users.
Regarding the biggest CO2 emitters of the scheme, RWE saw its emissions grow year-on-year by 12% at 164 MtCO2. Its British subsidiary, RWE npower, emitted 50% more CO2 in 2012, with 25.4 MtCO2, whereas its Ducth subsidiary, Essent increased its CO2 emissions by 33% at 14 MtCO2. Cheap coal and low carbon prices largely explain these results.

The 28 new sectors of activity of the EU ETS Phase III (as according to the EU Directive 29/9 of 23 April 2009) have been added to our EU ETS Database. Currently, about 350 installations have been included in these Phase III sectors. Moreover, 85 new installations and about 50 new airline companies were added to our EU ETS and Aviation ETS databases.
New sectors include in particular the aluminium and chemical industries, as well as carbon capture and storage activities.
Two new greenhouse gases have also been added to the scope of the EU ETS, i.e. nitrous oxide (N2O) and perfluorocarbons (PFCs).
To see the list of the 28 new sectors, consult here the Annex I of the EU ETS Directive 29/9/CE.
