EU ETS Update (2 May 2012): Data release on 2011 surrendered units (EUAs, CERs, ERUs)
The European Commission relased today data on the carbon units surrendered by European companies for the year 2011. Excluding Cyprus and Malta, European Union's companies used 251 million U.N. CO2 offsets (CERs and ERUs) for their EU ETS 2011 compliance. This represents 13.5% of the total units surrendered for 2011 compliance. Moreover, the 11,000 installations participating to the EU carbon scheme emitted in 2011 a total of 1875 MtCO2, and had a surplus of free carbon allowances estimated to 119 million EUAs. 15 million 2011-vintage EUAs were recently disributed for free to European companies. In total, European Union's companies received for free in 2011 more than 2 billion carbon credits. 2011 emissions and compliance data have been added to our World ETS Database, and can be accessed by all registered users (free registration).
